What a weekend... My lovely and thoughtful wife threw a party for me last night at Blackledge Country Club in honor me finally graduating from college. She really outdid herself yet again and I'm so lucky to have someone who takes such good care of me. About 7 of us played golf before the party which was great. The weather looked ugly in the morning but the Sun ended up coming out and it was gorgeous day. The golf was excellent and in between several nicely timed jabs about how many presidents have been in office since I started college, I had a lot of laughs and even hit a few balls decently.
Sunday afternoon / night is a time most people get there "stuff" back in order from the weekend and try to get ready for the work week. The fact that so many people gave up that time and drove long distances to come and give me a pat on the back is some that truly made me feel honored. I'm pretty fortunate to have family and friends that care about me that much. Here's a few choice photos from the evening:

So that was the party. There are some additional pictures on my Facebook page if you're so inclined. Actually that's a good segue because I've been thinking about Facebook lately. I thought about a colleague the other day that I hadn't heard from in some time and then I realized that I had "hid" his news feed on Facebook. I don't hide or unfriend many people on Facebook but when I do it's for good reason. Here are some of the "types" of Facebook people that I just can't deal with:
The Weather Man/Woman: This is the guy or gal that has recently moved to some location in the country/world other than where they grew up. Now I'm from the Northeast so these are typically people who grew up in New England and have now moved somewhere else. Every day there's another post from these people that's something like, "It's 75 and sunny here today!". Typically these posts come during the winter months so it's as if they're trying to rub it in the face of people still living in colder climates. News flash asshole: I "get" that it's warmer the closer you get to the equator and it's not because you moved there. Nobody gives a shit what the weather is like in Deliverance, Georgia but drop me a line in August when the next tornado comes through.
The Zen Wisdom Poster: If all you post are quotes from other people then basically what you're saying is, "Here's something that somebody much more interesting than me said." It's nice that you're retreading other people's observations but seriously we've all had enough. Go tend to your own life and stop trying to impart these little pearls of wisdom on the rest of us.
The Passive / Aggressive Bitch: This is the person who's only mission on Facebook is to "friend" people and then make passive, aggressive comments that they hope those people will read. A good example might be, "Well I'm glad that some of my family doesn't make me want to kill them...", or "We're just SOOOOO happy I can't understand how anyone would think otherwise." Admittedly I'm kind of doing the same passive, aggressive thing by posting this on my blog but it's my blog so get bent.
The Promoter: With a few exceptions of course (Chris Shaw, Futoma etc.), I don't care about your shitty band and stop inviting me to shows that are halfway around the world. I've got stuff to do and I can't make it. I hope you make it big but stop using your Facebook friends as a mailing list.
The Yankees Fan: I hate the Yankees. 99.98% of Yankees fans are bandwagon idiots who couldn't name 5 guys in the starting lineup. I have news outlets at my disposal and don't need you to pontificate about how Jeter played last night.
The Mysterious Philosopher: This is the person who posts things like, "Why does life always kick me in the ass?!", or "Some people should just be people and not try to be my people or people me or whatever the f#@!" If you're not going to tell us what's actually going on then stop posting ambiguous comments and fishing for people to respond and ask you what's wrong.
There are many more but this blog entry is already too long. I'll be sure to add more offenders as I think of them. As I said when I started, this was quite a weekend. I'm a pretty happy guy today.
