Yesterday was opening day for fishing. It's been a few years since I went out and fished on opening day, mostly because for some reason every year opening day is a cold, rainy, windy and all around crappy day. The same was basically true for this year but I decided to go out anyway. I went to Bigelow Hollow State Park which is the same spot I went just about every year growing up with my brother and father. I joined them again this year along with one of my brother's friends and I had a great time. The fishing was a little slow but it was just good to be outside for a while.

Things are still not looking up for the Mets who are off to a lousy spot. Last night's game was a bright spot for a change. They beat the Cardinals 2-1 in a game that lasted over 6 hours and went 20 innings. They needed the win desperately and it was a fun game to watch. Nothing beats the kind of game where both teams run out of pitchers and end up with regular position players on the mound. In the Mets case that could only lead to an upgrade.
Abby starts soccer this coming Friday and at least one parent is required to participate in the practice. I'm looking forward to it, perhaps more than she even is. I'm not sure if she's destined to be the next Mia Hamm but she was really excited about getting shin guards and pink soccer shorts. She may be in it just for the accessories.
