This weekend we took off to NYC for a good day in the city and then Easter Sunday in Flushing with the family. As I write this blog, I'm sitting on the 45th floor of our hotel, overlooking Manhattan and helping Wyatt make sure there's no monsters under the beds in our room. (FYI there was one and we kicked it's ass)
New York is a pretty cool city. My wife is from NY state and I know the city holds a special place in her heart. When we were dating we would come down to the city often to see shows and just bang around. There was this guy Gimpy Steve who was a regular at the bar we both worked at who would give us tickets to just about everything. Mostly it was because he was sweet on Liz but we took the tickets anyway. Rangers games, Broadway shows, concert tickets, you name it. Anyway this isn't a blog about Gimpy Steve but he's part of the story because he was the impetus for many of the trips Liz and I took to the city when we were dating. I love this city for it's character. I love it for the smell that just seems to rise up from the minute you hit the West Side Highway. I love it because now my kids love it too. They were both in strollers the first time they came to the city, not even big enough to walk.
This morning I did a 3 mile run through Manhattan and I must say it was quite awesome. I ran to almost lower Manhattan and back, zig zagging my way through different blocks and ducking the CHUDS in the sewers. When I got back, Liz and the kids were just digging in to breakfast and my two eggs, homefries, white toast and V8 were waiting for me. It was an awesome morning. Seriously, it was a top 5 morning of all time. If you haven't run up and down Broadway as the city that never sleeps actually wakes up then you're missing out on life.
So now we're getting ready to head over to Queens and I'm really looking forward to it. Liz's aunt and uncle really know how to entertain and it's been a while sense we've seen my Mother and Father-in-law. We've got beautiful weather which makes for good Easter Egg hunts and porch sitting. We'll take a spin by Citi Field (new Shea) on the way over just because we can and plus the Mets are practicing there today before tomorrow's opener.
